Brewing  is the process of creating potions and "splash potions" by adding various ingredients to water bottles in a brewing stand.

Every potion starts with a water bottle, made by filling a glass bottle at a water source or filled cauldron. The next step is to add a primary ingredient to create a "base potion", which is usually Nether Wart. This potion has no effect when drunk. By brewing a second ingredient into a base potion the same way, you can create a potion with an effect (e.g. Swiftness). A third ingredient may be added to make the effect more intense or last longer, or turn the effect harmful. Finally, gun powder can be added to a potion at any stage to convert it to a splash potion, which can be thrown. Each brewing step takes 20 seconds.

Equipment Needed For Brewing

There are four items that are key to brewing. These are a brewing stand (obviously), a cauldron, glass bottles and water bottles.

  • A brewing stand is used to add ingredients to water bottles so potions can be created.

  • A cauldron is used as a water source so you can fill up glass bottles. Each cauldron holds a bucket of water after it has been placed but it will only fill 3 glass bottles.

  • Glass bottles act as containers for all the different kinds of potions. These can be put into stacks of 64, unlike water bottles.

  • Water bottles are made by filling a glass bottle from a cauldron or water source. The is the starting point to creating any potion. Water can be drunk from the bottles with out any effect to make the bottles stackable again after being filled.

How To Craft A Brewing Stand

Brewing Guilde

  1. Every potion starts with a water bottle made by filling a glass bottle at a water source or filled cauldron.

  2. The next step is to add a primary ingredient to create a base potion which is usually Nether Wart. By adding Nether Wart you create the Awkward potion which itself has no effect.

  3. By brewing a second ingredient into the base potion, via the same way, you can create a potion with a working effect.

  4. A third ingredient may be added to make the effect more intense or last longer, or turn the effect harmful.

  5. Finally, gun powder can be added to a potion at any stage to convert it to a splash potion, which can be thrown to disperse its effect in a radius. Each brewing step takes 20 seconds.

Tips

  • Nether Wart is the primary ingredient added to water bottles at the first stage as it is required to make most of the potions. All other base ingredients will only allow the creation of variations of "Potion of Weakness". Therefore it would be best to start searching for Nether Wart as soon as you enter the Nether.

  • Redstone makes it last longer, Glowstone Dust makes it stronger but shorter-lasting.

  • Brewing stands have three slots for three water bottles so you can brew three potions at once. A single ingredient is enough to brew into all three bottles therefore an efficient potion-maker should always brew in batches of three.

  • Fermented Spider Eye corrupts the effect of the potion, reversing the efficient of the potion. (e.g potion of night vision becomes potion of invisibility.)
